Kinpurnie Hill is located on the Angus/Perthshire border and is quite a landmark in the environs of the Vale of Strathmore. Atop the hill is unfinished Kinpurnie Tower which dates back to 1766, built by James Stuart MacKenzie who had intended it be used as an observatory.
My view of the Hill and it`s tower uses the flat fertile fields near Meigle as a foreground lead into the painting; the converging tram-lines through the soon to be harvested wheat helping to evoke a feeling of space.
I recently learned that Kinpurnie is classified as a "Marilyn"; a hill greater than 150m in height.
